Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, tol introduce new charges for businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform to send certain messages to customers from October 1, 2026.
The new fees will apply to companies that use the platform, previously known as the WhatsApp Business API, for large-scale customer communication.
Businesses in sectors such as banking, fintech, telecommunications, logistics and e-commerce are expected to be among those affected by the new pricing structure.
Under the revised system, companies will be charged for certain service and utility messages, including payment confirmations, transaction alerts, order updates and delivery notifications.
Meta has directed businesses using the platform to link a valid payment method to their accounts by September 30, 2026, warning that failure to do so could affect message delivery once the new charges come into effect.
In Nigeria, service and utility messages are expected to cost about $0.0101, which is approximately ₦14 per message, while marketing messages will attract a higher fee of about $0.062, or roughly ₦84 per message.
The changes will not affect regular WhatsApp users or small businesses that use the free WhatsApp Business mobile application.
The new charges are expected to raise the cost of customer communication for companies that depend on WhatsApp to send alerts, provide customer support and promote their products and services.
Businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform have consequently been advised to review their accounts and payment arrangements before the September 30 deadline.
The policy represents another adjustment to Meta’s commercial messaging system, with businesses expected to account for the new per-message fees when planning their customer service and marketing expenses.
